Final Exam Study Guide
Final Information¶
- Closed book, closed notes except for one sheet (front and back) of paper with notes, no electronic devices except a calculator and/or drawing implements.
- I'll provide the paper.
- Comprehensive but focused more on content after the midterm. You will definitely need to know the main stress/strain concepts from the first portion to complete the problems from the second portion.
- Possible types of questions (similar to midterm):
- True/False
- Multiple Choice
- Short Answer
- Long Answer
- Review the instructor's class notes, your notes, the book sections, and the homeworks.
Book Sections to Review¶
The following lists the book sections that we covered. All of the examples in these sections are good to review. In addition, I've listed some relevant problems from the sections that you can try for extra practice.
Chapter 1¶
Study sections 1-1 to 1-17
Recommended problems: 1-9, 1-12 to 1-17, 1-21, 1-23, 1-24, 1-29, 1-31, 1-32
Chapter 3¶
Study sections 3-1 to 3-14 and 3-18 to 3-19
Recommend problems: 3-1 to 3-4, 3-5 to 3-8, 3-9 to 3-12, 3-14, 3-15 to 3-19, 3-20/21/22, 3-23, 3-25/26, 3-29, 3-35 to 3-38, 3-42, 3-44, 3-45
Chapter 6¶
Study sections 6-1 to 6-4, 6-7 to 6-15. For 6-12 only Langer (yield) and Modified Goodman lines will be tested, don't worry about the other lines, i.e. ASME Elliptic, Gerber, etc. For 6-15 only study Miner's method.
